Admiralty Bear Guide Cruise and Charters Bears, Whales & Glaciers
You can have it all here in beautiful Southeast Alaska with Master Guide Scott Newman. We incorporate all three aspects of your Alaskan dream cruise into one Alaskan adventure. Bears, whales and glaciers are the top three draws to Alaska. We offer a 5 day/4 night cruise that provides first class opportunities to view all three up close and personal. Walk on a glacier, kayak with the whales or bears, or customize your own itinerary to include some spectacular sport fishing for salmon or halibut.
Your trip begins in Petersburg, Alaska, a fishing village rich in Native and Norwegian culture.
Day One: We leave Petersburg midday and head for LeConte Bay. Leconte Glacier is the southernmost tidewater glacier in North America. Regarded by many as one of the most rugged and picturesque glaciers in Alaska and definitely one of the most active. Watch and listen as it calves icebergs with a thunderous roar.
Day Two: We head for Thomas Bay and Baird Glacier. In contrast to Leconte Glacier, Baird Glacier is a sleepy giant. Very large and smooth we are able to walk up the glacial moraine and get right up onto the glacier itself. Needless to say, it is very impressive to walk up to a glacier and put your hands on it!
Day Three: Whale watching! We ease out into Frederick Sound, the summer home of the Humpback whale. Large schools of herring and krill assure large numbers of feeding whales.
Day Four: Admiralty Island “Kootz-noo-hoo” Fortress of the bear! Admiralty Island has the highest density of brown bears in the world at 1.7 bears per square mile. We will anchor the Tyler Too in a secluded harbor and either kayak the calm waters to view bears or take a larger skiff to glass and photograph bears in their natural environment. No habituated bears here. These are wild Alaskan Brown bears. And who better to view them with than a State of Alaska registered Master Guide. Safety is of first concern. We usually get close enough for photographs but not so close that the bear is aware of our presence. We try to leave them undisturbed so as not to displace them unnecessarily.
Day Five: We leave the bears of Admiralty Island, the whales of Frederick Sound and the breathtaking glaciers for our scenic return cruise to Petersburg, Alaska.
Kayaking:
Depending on your preference and your skill level you can kayak the open water with the whales, or if you prefer calmer waters you can kayak to view the bears. Kayaking is a lot of fun and a neat way to view wildlife without disturbing the animals.
